Sony Group Corp. is closing PlayStation game studio "Bluepoint Games," known for creating remakes of video games such as "Demon's Souls."
According to a statement from Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hermen Hulst, approximately 70 employees will lose their jobs as a result of the studio's closure. He noted that the decision was made after a "recent business review." Bluepoint will officially cease operations next month.
Hermen Hulst added: "Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team, and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences to the PlayStation community. We thank them for their passion, creativity, and craftsmanship."
Founded in 2006 and based in Austin, the studio was known for creating high-quality remakes of older games such as "Uncharted" and "Shadow of the Colossus" for modern platforms. Sony acquired "Bluepoint" in 2021, shortly after the successful release of "Demon's Souls" on PlayStation 5, and the studio ported the 2022 game "God of War Ragnarok" to PC.
Before that, Bluepoint had begun working on a "God of War" game in a "live-service" format. However, the project was canceled in January 2025. At the time, PlayStation said it was working with Bluepoint to determine the studio's next project. However, it appears that the discussions were unsuccessful, and the decision was made to close the studio.
