According to the studio, Vávra, known for his harsh critical comments and unconventional approach, will now lead a "Kingdom Come" film project. In an interview with "CzechCrunch", studio head Martin Frývaldský explained the reasons for the change:
"Dan has a new role: he will create the 'Kingdom Come' film. People may wonder whether this was Warhorse's decision. No, on the contrary, Dan himself wanted to try something new. He has created three globally successful games and has wanted to try himself in a different field for a long time.
Bringing the 'Kingdom Come' universe to the screen in the coming years is another important goal we want to achieve, and this is Dan's new responsibility. You will no longer see him in the office every day, but he will continue to be part of Warhorse in a broader sense."
Frývaldský also added that an initial script for the "Kingdom Come" film has already been written, and negotiations with film production companies are currently ongoing.
In his own statement, the studio head said: "Anyone who has played Kingdom Come or Mafia knows very well what to expect from Dan. You would have to be blind not to see how much our brand has grown. In any case, we see this film as a logical complement to our game production."
It should be noted that the studio's latest game, "Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2", sold 5 million copies in its first year after release and received major nominations at prestigious events such as The Game Awards, the DICE Awards, and BAFTA. The first game, meanwhile, played a foundational role in "Warhorse"'s growth, with sales reaching 8 million copies. Recall that the studio was acquired in 2019 by Embracer Group, which operates under "Plaion".
