It all began in 2012. Xbox, Sony, and industry giants such as Blizzard, in cooperation with New York State authorities, launched a joint initiative. The goal was to completely remove registered sex offenders from online platforms. It turns out that this “cleanup” effort also came knocking at Jeffrey Epstein’s door.
The Surprise in Epstein’s Inbox
Among the published documents, several notifications sent from Xbox directly to Epstein’s email address were discovered.
- First notification: It confirmed that Epstein had received a “permaban” (permanent ban) from the platform. Due to his status as a registered sex offender, he was expelled from the Xbox Live network in 2013.
- Second notification: It explained the legal basis for the decision in greater detail. The letter stated:
This action is based on a partnership established by the New York Attorney General’s Office with Microsoft and other online gaming companies. The goal is to minimize risks to other users, particularly children, by keeping registered sex offenders in New York away from online gaming services.
As a result, no Xbox LIVE account associated with this email address will be able to access the system.
