The new device, called "SN Operator," allows users to play original Super Nintendo (SNES) and Super Famicom cartridges directly on a computer. Developed following the success of the company's previously released and highly acclaimed "GB Operator" (the version designed for Game Boy cartridges), this new model is intended for retro gaming enthusiasts.
The device connects to PCs, Macs, or computers running Linux via USB-C. Thanks to Epilogue's proprietary software, users can launch games from cartridges without any additional installation. One of the system's biggest advantages is that it can read and edit the game's save file stored on the cartridge. This means players can continue on their PC from where they left off on the cartridge years ago. They can even transfer their progress on the PC to the cartridge's memory.
In addition, “SN Operator” can verify whether cartridges are original, an important feature for collectors. The device also supports the Super Game Boy adapter, meaning Game Boy games can be played through the adapter as well. Priced at $95, the device is currently available for preorder and is expected to begin shipping to customers in fall 2025.
